The City of Alexandria

When you enter Alexandria, the capital of Egypt, you will be dazzled by the gleaming white marble buildings. The main street is 100 feet wide, large enough for eight chariots to ride abreast. The famous 450-foot lighthouse is one of the Seven Wonders of the World.

At night, the city is lit with lamps and torchlight. Thirty-foot statues of sphinxes line the city square, alongside three-story- high statues of the Ptolemaic kings and queens. Every plinth and archway in the city is adorned with stone sculptures of animal gods.

By day, the streets are crammed with Libyan merchants, Judean soldiers, Greek scholars, purple-cloaked Egyptian court officials, and camel caravans bearing silk from Sheba. The wealth of the Nile flows through Alexandria’s bustling ports. The city even boasts a zoo with giraffes, cheetahs, and lions. Alexandria is the most beautiful city of its time. In fact, you really should have purchased our Alexandria time travel package rather than Rome. Well, live and learn.
